The Officers and Members of the Walden Fire Dept. eagerly await the arrival of the new Ladder Truck (T-240) this week. The unit was commissioned to be built by Spartan by the commissioners of the Walden Fire District well over a year ago.

The new Ladder Truck is scheduled to be delivered on Friday (7/14/17) and the training will beginning that same weekend. After a few weeks of training and adjustments the New Ladder Truck should be placed in service.

The Truck will be replacing the current Ladder truck which went into service in 1997. The NFPA recommends that Fire Fighting apparatus be "changed out" every 20 years. This will help ensure that the Department has the proper apparatus in service to meet the needs of properly protecting the District.

June 26, 2017

On 6/26/17 the Walden Fire Department participated in a joint agency Active shooter drill with local Police Departments and EMS. This was the first hands on drill where the multiple disciplines worked together and formed "Rescue Task Force" consisting of Fire EMS and Police, to make entry into the area to treat and remove wounded civilians.

It was a great drill and all Agencies worked hand in hand to better protect and serve our public. This being the first time a joint exercise like this was conducted the results obviously exceeded everyone's expectations! In fact it was like all the agencies have been "drilling" together for years. It's truly an example of the Professionals that are here to serve the community.

Great job to all and it is our honor to serve all of you! Let's hope we never have to utilize these "skills" in a real world evolution!

On May 13th the Walden FD held its 2017 Installation Dinner. Line Officers and Civil Officers were sworn in.

Awards were presented to members various reasons to include over 50 Years of Service.

The Walden Fire District has released the attached statement concerning the accident on early Saturday Morning (3/4/17) which occurred within the District.

Our condolences go out to the affected families involved in this tragic event.

The Walden Fire District wishes to clarify that Dennis Wilson, Jr. was not an active/in service member at the time of the motor vehicle accident this past Saturday. Mr. Wilson was not responding to an emergency or in any way participating in any fire department event at the time of the accident, nor was he currently serving as Captain or any other position of authority.

Therefore, the Walden Fire District cannot comment about the incident but will only state that Mr. Wilson has not been able to respond to emergencies since prior to the accident and remains unable to respond to emergencies until further notice.

The Walden Fire Department Fire Explorer Program is a youth program affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. The program is designed to allow male and female youth, between the ages of 14 and 20, to explore a career in the fire service. The explorers receive training similar to volunteer and professional firefighters, including basic fire chemistry, hose evolutions, ladder operations, medical and CPR training, hazardous materials, and auto extrication.

The training program is intense and demanding, however the rewards are increased character and the understanding of what it takes to pursue a career in the fire service.

Fire Explorers receive the following benefits:

The opportunity to learn teamwork and leadership skills! Competitive activities at Fire Explorer Musters Challenge, Hard Work, Fun, and Friendship! The ability to participate at the FASNY Youth Day. You would also become eligible to receive scholarships and awards from FASNY, IAFC, NYSAFC, NFPA, and many others.

Basic requirements:

Between 14 and 20 years old
Completion of the 8th grade
2.0 or better grade point average.
